Case: Marine Loading in the Bahamas

Offshore loading arms

Kanon recently completed the delivery and commissioning of multiple MLA270 Marine Loading Arms at an offshore terminal in the Bahamas. The arms—of various sizes, including 16” and 12”—are designed for the safe and efficient transfer of refined oil products. Built for long-term performance in corrosive and wave-exposed environments, the arms are equipped with features that support both safety and durability. From swivel joints to hydraulic systems, each component is engineered for ease of use, minimal maintenance, and high operational uptime. These arms now play a central role in the daily loading operations at the terminal, where efficiency, safety, and reliability are non-negotiable.

Tailored logistics approach

To meet the customer’s specific requirements, the logistics approach was adapted midway through the project. Instead of shipping in containers, the loading arms were delivered fully assembled. This significantly reduced installation time on site and minimized local handling. In close coordination with the terminal team, Kanon scheduled multiple site visits to enable phased installation and ensure the facility could begin operations as soon as the first units were in place.

Challenges on site

Installation presented a unique set of challenges due to the remote island location and the absence of large-scale lifting equipment. With no jack-up barge available, a small pontoon with two ageing cranes was used for the offshore lifting operations. Unpredictable sea conditions, such as wind and swell, frequently delayed work. The project required flexibility, precision, and close coordination to ensure safe and timely execution under these conditions.

Reliable commissioning

Despite the complexity of the environment, the installation was completed to a high standard and within schedule. The terminal was operational shortly after commissioning began, with the loading systems performing as intended from day one. Kanon worked closely with the local crew to ensure that final testing and handover ran smoothly, despite the offshore location and unpredictable weather. In doing so, the project served as a strong example of Kanon’s ability to execute remote installations under limiting conditions. It also reflects our broader approach: offering not just equipment, but long-term value through technical expertise, customer focus, and full lifecycle support.
